Users of the playing fields are particularly incensed with dog mess being left. It must be nigh on impossible to track where a dog has left its calling card when off the lead on a large field – keep it on a lead. Toxocariasis is the disease that children can contract from infected dog faeces – there is a danger of blindness. Pick it up.

There are several colourful flower displays all year around at the Westfield Trinity Methodist Church, the hanging basket trees at Wesley Avenue and the Nightingales and the shops at Elm Tree Avenue. There are also coal trucks planted up by the bus stop at Elm Tree Avenue and the green area by Wesley Avenue. These displays are managed by a outside contractor and are kept beautifully all year around. At the time of writing the Council is about to have hanging basket trees placed by the parking area at Elm Tree Avenue shops.

Westfield held its first Front Garden competition in July 2014. It was determined a success and is now an annual event. See our page dedicated to the competition for up to date information.

The Information & Advice Service for Special Educational Needs, Disability & Additional Needs is available to families with a child or young person up to the age of 25 with additional needs, a special educational need or disability (SEND). It provides individual appointments at a range of venues in your local area. There are also drop-in sessions in some Children’s Centres and visits to existing groups. To book an appointment with the Information & Advice Officer for SEND please contact 01225 394382. All enquiries will be dealt with in strict confidence and the advice given will be impartial.

Westfield Parish Council has volunteer Snow Wardens who help keep some key pedestrian areas gritted during spells of snow and ice. December 2012 was the first year the volunteers had a chance to make a big difference. They certainly stepped up to the challenge.
