Lottery Funded
Grant funding from the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund was awarded to Westfield Parish Council. This meant that Norton Hill Play Area has been rejuvenated with the removal of some pieces of play equipment which were literally rotting away and replaced with some modern, inspiring play equipment picked by the pupils of Westfield Primary School and Fosse Way School.
Norton Hill Recreation Ground was set up in 1928 by the former mining community. It is now managed by Westfield Parish Council which was formed in 2011. The Recreation Ground suffered from a lack of renovation over the years and as result the small play area on the site was wearing out and was constantly under repair.
The grant funding allowed for the removal of the existing ‘toy town’ unit for younger children and replaced with a Toddlerzone Climb and Slide for young children. In addition, two new pieces of play equipment for the older age range were also installed at the same time, extending the range and interest of the play area.
The Parish Council would like to say a huge thank you to the ‘Awards for All’ programme team of the Big Lottery for awarding the grant funding and also thanks to Westfield Primary School for hosting the display board and giving the pupils time to pick their favourite play scheme and to Fosse Way School for visiting the display board and expressing their preferences.
We hope that the new equipment will be enjoyed for many years to come.
The Parish Council transformed a piece of derelict ground into a Boules Court (also known as Petanque) backing onto the tennis court fence. The other area has a basketball hoop, with integrated fencing at the far end with an all-weather concrete table tennis table in the middle.
